Owners are drawn to the bbq business because of the lifestyle freedoms that are unique to our chain that opens at 11 am and closes no later than 9pm.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Richard Ivey, the founder of Virginia Barbeque, has been a Certified Executive Chef for the past 10 years, with over 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry.

Richard's goal was to create a business that would not only create his success, but create a business that he could share to help others do the same. His desire for "success larger than life" compelled him to create the Virginia Barbeque - bbq franchise system.

Richard also wanted to create a lifestyle that worked for owners, staff and customers. Operational hours are generally from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There are several attributes of a Virginia Barbeque that give us a substantial advantage in the Quick Serve Restaurant Industry. Here are just a few:

Product variety - two types of barbeque pork (Virginia which is a tomato base sauce and North Carolina a champagne vinegar base), chicken, beef brisket, and ribs provide an excellent mix for all customers.
Our average location is 1,500 square feet and we typically go in strip malls.
Our traffic in the stores is a heavy lunch, good dinner, lots of takeout orders (lunch and family style dinners), and excellent catering opportunities.
Besides catering we also provide food services at community events and fundraisers. We get very involved in the local community.
A small staff at any given time (2-3 people) can fully operate a VA BBQ location.
Our diversified mix of excellent side orders allows customers to choose combination meals they want and they enhance catering opportunities.
Our initial start-up and overhead costs are among the lowest in the Quick Serve Restaurant industry.
